Avoiding the heavy thoughts never made things any better.
No one really wants to be aware of our own mortality or the fragility of health and wealth. I didn’t realize I would be making my first blog post on a topic like this either, but it’s been on my mind.
As a Muslim, I’ve always found it so interesting how Islam encourages us to think about life and it’s finite nature, and the potential for trials surrounding our health and wealth. We are constantly reminded that life is temporary and what you have is never truly your own. You can accumulate wealth, but do you really have control over how much money you end up making… or losing? You can work out and lead a healthy lifestyle, but can you guarantee that you won’t fall ill?
It would be nice if we could.
We have far less control over our lives than we like to believe. It makes us feel safe when we see life as straightforward as “a + b = c”, but the reality is, there are always going to be hardships that we face - some we see coming and others out of left field.
The question is, shouldn’t constantly thinking about the potential of things going wrong keep you on edge? And shouldn’t thinking about loss in different areas of your life create paranoia?
